Just updated my linux box to Ubuntu 18.04LTS (recently released). Ptools desktop now crashes at startup with apparently Motif related problems (as has been documented for other linux builds). Motif library (libmotif-common) is available, but 18.04 appears to be missing a library or link or two. Please advise.

The errors reported at startup are:

greg@triplerock:~$ pathway-tools/pathway-tools Warning: Loading failed with error: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. ; Foreign loading ; Foreign loading ; Foreign loading ;; Optimization settings: safety 3, space 1, speed 1, debug 3. ;; For a complete description of all compiler switches given the ;; current optimization settings evaluate (EXPLAIN-COMPILER-SETTINGS). An unhandled error occurred during initialization: Attempt to call

("InitializeMyDrawingAreaQueryGeometry" 140356967312896 0 2

140356967312896 8) for which the definition has not yet been (or is no longer) loaded.

Here are the instructions another developer gave me:

  1. Open a terminal, or cd to your home directory.

  2. cd to pathway-tools/aic-export/pathway-tools/ptools/22.0/exe

  3. Do an ls, and you should see a file and a link The problem is fixed by removing these items, either with rm or moving them somewhere else (e.g. mkdir disabled and move the libXm files there).

  4. Once the files are removed, you should be able to start Pathway Tools from the desktop shortcuts.

Let us know if you have any difficulties with the instructions or other problems running pathway tools in this configuration. We expect to release 22.5 soon, so we may not release the updated installer until then.

Thanks. The solution worked like a charm. Consider this problem solved.
